SCHEDULE:  40 hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.



Scattered Site Housing (SSH) provides comprehensive, intensive case management support to chronically homeless individuals with histories of substance abuse and mental illness in housing using the Housing First model promoting long-term stability in housing and the end of homelessness in Boston.

The SSH Clinical Case Manager –SAMHSA works as part of an intensive case management team serving individuals who may now or have in the past be experiencing untreated mental illness, drug and alcohol addiction, and other major health challenges. The SSH Clinical Case Manager –SAMHSA uses a harm-reduction, trauma-informed approach to working with participants, including the utilization of Critical Time Intervention (CTI), Change Theory and Motivational Interviewing techniques. The SSH Clinical Case Manager –SAMHSA is responsible for a specific caseload of individuals, and also for collaborating with other SSH, PSI, Boston Housing Authority (BHA) and BPHC staff on program-wide efforts to stabilize and promote the individual growth of all SAMHSA and SSH clients. SSH Clinical Case Manager –SAMHSA supports chronically homeless individuals in the housing search process with BHA, moving people from homelessness to housing, and continues to provide intensive stabilization and community integration services as necessary. Additional case management responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting participants with all required program documentation; assisting participants with obtaining benefits, healthcare, educational opportunities, employment opportunities, and legal aid; supporting the development of participants’ activities of daily living skills and creating individual service plans with participants, maintaining all necessary documentation including GPRA surveys; and assuring compliance with the Medicaid billing regulations for eligible participants. The SSH Clinical Case Manager – SAMHSA will work closely with the SSH Clinical Coordinator and Peer Support Specialist to meet program goals and provide support to program participants.



  • Master’s Degree in a related field (i.e. social work, psychology, education, nursing)

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Computer Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products

  • A valid Mass driver’s license in good standing
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing substance abuse, mental illness, trauma, homelessness and/or other complex disorders

  • Strong commitment to learning and using the Critical Time Intervention model, as well as motivational interviewing skills in order to promote improved behavioral health among participants

  • Ability to set limits fairly and consistently while maintaining appropriate boundaries

  • Knowledge of effective crisis intervention techniques and ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; the ability to balance many competing demands

  • Experience working as part of a team

  • Ability to access different building locations and program sites via vehicle, public transit, and by foot in varied weather conditions, including climbing several flights of stairs and lifting up to 50 pounds of weight

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and use computer, calculator, fax, copier and other office equipment

  • Ability to communicate professionally both verbally and in writing, including the ability to successfully represent organization in various forums
