 LOCATION: 414 Harrison Avenue, Boston MA 

 SCHEDULE: 40 hours, Tuesday - Saturday, 2:45 p.m. 11:15p.m.

  

 JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Evening Counselor is responsible for the overall safety of the participants in the program at 414 Harrison Avenue or 8 Church Street. The Evening Counselor will assist participants in obtaining their dinner meal and performing other activities of daily living (ADL) skills. The incumbent will also work with other staff to engage participants in leisure time activities. The Evening Counselor will create and maintain a respectable atmosphere that empowers very chronic, mentally ill participants to reach their highest level of functioning. The Evening Counselor will be assigned participants and work with them on developing treatment plans, ensure follow through on individual treatment plans and document progress in the log and in the chart and ensure that all floors are clean and tidy including but not limited to kitchens, hallways, bathrooms, and individual participants rooms. The Evening Counselor will also run groups on their assigned shift. This program will follow the models of Housing First/Safe Haven.

  

REQUIREMENTS:

  •  High School diploma or GED
  •  Minimum of one (1) year experience in a shelter, community residence or in an inpatient setting
  •  Experience maintaining a safe environment for clients in a program setting
  •  Experience as a human services team member
  •  Familiarity with the concepts of rehabilitation and consumer empowerment
  •  Experience with dually diagnosed individuals
  •  Experience assisting people with ADL skills
  •  Comfort level working with participants with untreated psychiatric conditions
  •  Comfort with a harm reduction approach to substance abuse
  •  Effective writing and verbal skills
  •  Ability to respond to individuals in crisis
  •  Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs quickly and frequently
  •  Ability to assist certain individuals with ADL skills

  

PAY:  $13 - $15  DOE
