Housing Resource Specialist Supervisor

SCHEDULE: 40 hours, Monday – Friday 8:30- 5:00 pm-with availability for early mornings, nights, and weekends as needed.

LOCATION: 444 Harrison Avenue & PSI shelters

This position carries a retention bonus of $4000.00, payable in instalments of: $500.00 at 1 month, $ 500.00 at 3 months, $1500.00 at 6 months, and $1500.00 at one year.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Housing Resource Specialist Supervisor will have oversight of a team of Housing Resource Specialists who will partner with shelter guests to move them to safe, permanent housing with the supports necessary to sustain housing. The program offers a range of case management services based on the client need. The Supervisor will work closely with the other Housing Resource Specialist Supervisor, as well as the larger Housing Placement Supervisory team to meet the goals of the department.

The Housing Resource Specialist Supervisor will work with team members to inspire, coach, and directly supervise the day to day activities of the Housing Resource Specialist team including facilitating cross agency meetings and client case conferencing meetings. The Housing Resource Specialist Supervisor oversees systems of financial assistance for program participants. The Housing Resource Specialist Supervisor will be responsible to ensure housing outcomes and program goals are met. The Housing Resource Specialist Supervisor will work under tight timeframes for accurately entering guest information into the Pine Street Inn’s approved Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). The Housing Resource Specialist Supervisor will provide exceptional customer service both internally and externally, will act in leadership capacities in community meetings and will work in partnership with Shelter Services, Triage, and other Housing Placement programs to provide integrated service delivery that furthers our mission to eliminate homelessness.

REQUIREMEMTS:

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

REQUIRED:

  • BSW, BA or BS in a human services related field or at least three (3) years of equivalent experience in a social service setting

PREFERRED:

  • A minimum of 2 years performing as a team leader or project leader or supervisor
  • Certification, training, or formal education in counseling and/or case management
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License
  • Bilingual – Spanish or Haitian-Creole

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience delivering services to a challenged population often struggling with addiction and untreated or under-treated mental health concerns
  • Strong computer and math skills - including familiarity with MS Word, Excel and the ability to learn and successfully use MIS & HMIS programs
  • Practical experience in creating housing plans and individual service plans
  • Experience with household budgeting, housing/community referrals, and service planning
  • Experience accessing local housing opportunities and subsidy programs for homeless individuals
  • Knowledge of the issues related to homelessness and housing
  • Working knowledge of human services systems, housing subsidy programs and homeless referral networks
  • Experience navigating systems of housing and care for homeless individuals
  • Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, Harm Reduction, Housing First and Change Theory

PREFERRED:

  • Bi-lingual Spanish or Haitian-Creole

PHYSICAL ABILITIES/SKILLS:

REQUIRED:

  • Ability to stand for moderate periods of time, stretch, bend, lift and assist guests up and down stairs during difficult and/or emergency situations.
  • Ability to respond safely and quickly in case of emergency situations
  • Ability to sit for moderate periods of time at a desk in an office while interacting with clients and/or managing documentation and completing data entry
  • Must be able to drive a PSI vehicle for work use

REQUIRED:

  • Excellent writing, documentation, math and computer skills
  • Ability to assess clients and make appropriate referrals
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with internal and external program staff

  • Ability to perform an array of difficult tasks at the same time
  • Patience in working with guests with untreated emotional and/or physical health needs and active substance use/abuse/dependency behaviors
  • Ability to work in intense emotionally charged situations
  • Ability to help provide critical incident de-briefing

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Meet or exceed established program goals
  • Use HMIS data and reports to identify patterns and social systems that contribute to increased length of stay in shelter
  • As needed, perform client intakes, assessments and service notes
  • As needed work one on one with program participants
  • As needed, input guest updates and other pertinent service information in the HMIS system. Use HMIS system to track guest access to shelter, services and outcomes
  • Monitor and track data quality input of direct reports
  • Hire, train and supervise team
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of human/social services networking opportunities available in the community
  • Ensure program files are accurate, complete and adhere to all grant requirements
  • Monitor quality of data and data completeness in PSI HMIS system by running regular approved reports
  • Act as team HMIS expert
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor
