Live In House Manager

SCHEDULE: 7 hours, Asleep Overnight Coverage 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., 1 paid hour each day

Pays $16.38 per hour

JOB DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Pine Street Inn’s Congregate Housing provides comprehensive residential and clinical support services to homeless and chronically homeless tenants.

The Live In House Manager contributes to the well-being of the tenants through maintaining the cleanliness of the property, providing asleep overnight coverage and responding to emergency situations as necessary, promoting social interaction and cooperative problem solving and participating in a neighborhood association as a representative of the Pine Street Inn.

QUALIFICATIONS:

As a condition of employment, in order for Pine Street Inn to be in compliance with regulations pertaining to this housing, the person in this position must have a total annual income equal to or less than sixty (60) percent of the area median income (AMI) as established by HUD. As of July 1, 2019, this amount for a single individual is $56,400.00. This amount may fluctuate from year to year. The person in the position also may not be a full-time student.

The prospective Live In House Manager must also be vetted and approved by the select board of the Town of Brookline.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • English Literacy

PREFERRED:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • Ability to work well with a diverse population, including formerly chronically homeless persons and those living with co-occurring behavioral health disorders
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Crisis Intervention Skills

PREFERRED:

  • Commitment to fostering social interaction and cooperative problem solving among tenants
  • Skills in crisis de-escalation
  • Experience working with chronically homeless, medically vulnerable individuals, with tri-morbidities (mental illness, substance abuse, medically compromised)
  • Familiarity with and commitment to Housing First as a model of permanent, supported, affordable housing
  • Experience with Trauma-Informed Care

PHYSICAL ABILITIES/SKILLS:

REQUIRED:

  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies
  • Ability to climb up to three (3) flights of stairs as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

MENTAL ABILITIES:

REQUIRED:

  • Ability to diffuse/mediate disputes with tenants who at times are experiencing active addictions, and/or mental health issues and positively deal with stress
  • Ability to model teamwork, dialogue, empowerment, healthy boundaries, time management and other supportive skills
  • Highly developed professional ethics to maintain appropriate boundaries

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Contributes to the overall integration and success of the department by being a team player, accepting and offering guidance as appropriate, participating in PSI activities and trainings as requested and promoting organizational integration based on the mission, vision and values.
  • Represents Pine Street Inn Housing and actively participate in a neighborhood association.
  • As the “resident agent”, be familiar with and ensure compliance with Town of Brookline Lodging House Regulations
  • Promotes social interaction and cooperative problem solving.
  • Provides asleep overnight coverage.
  • Maintains working phone line in order to respond to emergencies.
  • Completes tenant safety checks as directed.
  • Places trash and recycling bins out for pick up on designated mornings. Returns bins to storage location when pick up is complete.
  • Works cooperatively with the Pine Street Inn Facilities team as well as the PSI Administrator of Health and Safety to assure that our buildings and grounds are safe and up to tenant, City and Subsidy Provider’s Code.
  • Ensures that grounds of property are free of trash and debris.
  • Works cooperatively with representatives of all PSI departments, including but not limited to Facilities, Property Management, Development and External Affairs, Finance, and Human Resources.
  • Attends all mandatory trainings and other trainings that will enhance ability to assist tenants in maintaining and enhancing their quality of life, provide effective supervision of staff and encourage professional self- development.
  • Reports any maintenance and repair needs to Facilities Staff.
  • Sends regular reports to Supervisor and to house mailing list.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Attend Town of Brookline orientation on the role of the “resident agent” (i.e., Live in-House Manager) and lodging house regulations.
