Driver Holy Family Shelter

SCHEDULE: 24 hours, Sunday - Tuesday, 5:00am-8:00am & 3:00pm-8:00pm

Pays $22.41 per hour

This position carries a retention bonus of $1500.00, payable in instalments of: $500.00 after 1 month, $500 after 3 months, and $500 after 6 months.

The Driver is an essential position- shifts may vary; include holiday

JOB DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:

The Driver will perform scheduled and unscheduled driving assignments; transport guests from the Men’s Inn to Holy Family Inn or other locations as needed; assist with projects and services as directed by Shift Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor; model appropriate behavior and conflict resolution in front of guest, staff and the general public at all times. The Driver will work closely with supervisors and team members to keep Pine Street Inn van(s) clean, provide a safe and secure environment for residents & program members, and always drive to encourage a safe and pleasant ride for everyone. The Driver will do runs from Shattuck Shelter to others city shelters as need it.

The HFI Driver would need to be flexible to work at other PSI shelter locations; and perform supportive responsibilities as assigned on days that they are scheduled, while the Holy Family Program is closed for that shift. The program Supervisor and Shelter Director will work together to determine which shelter would be assigned based on coverage needs.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Must be able to read English satisfactorily

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of six (6) months of work experience in human services
  • Must have some basic technical skills, and the ability to use Windows 2007 programs

PHYSICAL ABILITIES/SKILLS:

  • Ability to operate a 15 passenger van
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift at least fifty (50) pounds of weight
  • Frequent bending, stooping for extended periods of time
  • Must feel comfortable driving for long periods of time, sometimes in excess of four (5) hours per day

MENTAL ABILITIES/SKILLS:

  • Must be able to multi-task and perform in an environment that is often times stressful and demanding
  • Must be able to work under pressure, set timelines and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to follow multiple directives from a varied number of individuals, prioritize these tasks and demonstrate the ability to switch tasks, use materials productively, and focus on production goals and quality of the finished products
  • Good leadership skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills are a plus

PREFERRED:

  • CPR, First Aid, CPI certifications
  • Previous experience driving a 15 passenger van

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Driving guests to and from specific destinations.
  • Coordinate & implement van runs schedule(s)
  • Assist Supervisor, Key Carrier and staff when appropriate with tasks deemed necessary by Shift Supervisor.
  • Maintain a professional, courteous and respectful rapport with staff, guests, outside agencies and general public.
  • Maintain records of all transports and maintain a van log, documenting mileage, damage etc.
  • Communicate with staff to coordinate shelter and detox runs, medical transports and pharmacy runs as needed.
  • Learn and utilize basic PSI computer applications.
  • Attend all mandatory trainings.
  • Record all relevant activities in shift log; transport log and referral log.
  • Work within established procedures and seek assistance where appropriate.
  • Responsible for safety and security of guests and staff between destinations.
  • Perform others duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
