SCHEDULE:  40 hours, Monday – Friday, 11:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., may include nights and/or weekend hours as needed



The Associate Director of Triage provides leadership and guidance to Triage staff and is responsible for the success of the operations and specific outcomes of the PSI Triage Program. Ultimately, oversee the operation of year-round Triage Services at three locations, WI, MI and Shattuck Shelter. In collaboration with the Director of Triage and Rapid Rehousing, The Associate Director will develop a Triage Clinical Social Work team working with multiple upstream organizations to reduce inappropriate and unsafe referrals to shelter while helping homeless individuals connect to all appropriate treatment and service options and to rapidly and permanently exit from shelter. The Associate Director will also work with Director of Triage and Rapid Rehousing and NECHV to develop a SSVF-Rapid Resolution program for Veterans in Triage in the City of Boston. The Associate Director will develop and implement policy and procedures and will be responsible for meeting and exceeding program goals for the department.

The Associate Director will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop and coordinate diversion and placement options, which create immediate pathways and related exits from shelter. The Associate Director will coach staff to make shelter rare, brief and non-recurrent using best practices in the field to include but not limited Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-informed Care and, whenever possible, will provide support toward family reunification and mitigating barriers to securing alternative options for safe housing.

The Associate Director will provide training and guidance for other programs as the organization and its community partners work to develop impactful triage and diversion policies, procedures and practices. The Associate Director will identify trends in the system that need to be addressed to ensure outcomes through producing reports and analyzing data from ETO. The Associate Director



  • BSW, BA or BS in a human services related field [degree can be substituted for a High School Diploma and a minimum of six (10) years of experience in a social service setting providing direct care]

  • Four years supervisory experience in homeless sector

  • Two years’ experience working in Triage Department or providing triage and diversion services

  • Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record for the last two (2) years

  • Experience working in program development

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience delivering services to a challenged population often struggling with addiction and untreated or under-treated mental health concerns

  • Minimum of four (4) year’s leadership and/or supervisory experience

  • Experience managing both direct and in-direct reports in a human services setting

  • Successful demonstrable experience with MIS & HMIS technologies

  • Significant practical experience in client assessment, diversion, mediation, negotiation, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, crisis prevention and intervention, household budgeting, rapid re-housing and service planning, recovery services – including mental health, substance use/abuse and traumatic brain injury

  • Working Knowledge of Housing First and Rapid Rehousing

  • Ability to stand for moderate periods of time

  • Ability to stretch, and bend

  • Ability to lift and assist guests up and down stairs during difficult and/or emergency situations

  • Ability to respond safely and quickly in case of emergency situations

  • Ability to sit for moderate periods of time at a desk in an office while interacting with clients and/or managing documentation and completing data entry

  • Ability to respond safely to emergency situation or crisis

  • Must be able to drive and be approved to drive a PSI vehicle for work use
